Honeymooning in London - choosing the right hotel

When Alain and I got married, we went on a two week honeymoon in and around the state parks of Utah and Arizona. We camped most of the time (with the exception of a couple of nights in Vegas) and took the kids - and the dog - with us.

This time, we're going alone, and so I'm looking at it as a kind of second honeymoon. In fact, I'm thinking about writing an article about the best places for a second honeymoon and have been doing some research. (I'll let you know if the article gets sold or not!)

In the meantime, we've chosen our hotel - it's in the Kensington Park area and it's a suite. (Although hotel rooms in Europe are so much smaller than hotel rooms in the states - so I'm not sure what to expect. I hope a suite means that we'll have a sitting room with a fold-out couch, because the room sleeps four. But we'll see.) The hotel serves a continental breakfast in the mornings. We'll be just a couple of blocks from the Tube, there are plenty of restaurants in the area, and the hotel is one of those smaller, privately owned ones, rather than a chain. Which, here in Europe, is more fun, at least in my opinion.

Because we're going to be walking or taking the bus and the tube most of the time, we chose our hotel based on how close it was to what we wanted to see, and to it's proximity to the stations. But it's also on a side street, a couple of blocks from the Tube, so we shouldn't be disturbed by traffic noises or foot traffic - and for me, that's important.

Plus, the hotel is an area with nicer homes, it's only two blocks from Kensington Park and so it is an area that is considered safe. Some places in London aren't.

Can't Believe I'm going to see London Before Paris!

Life is strange...we're going to London for a week - and I still haven't see Paris!

Oh well...There are so many things that I want to see - all of the usual tourist trap places, of course - Buckingham Palace, the Tower of London (and the crown jewels), Westminster Abbey, the Houses of Parliament, the London Eye, the Changing of the Guards, Oxford Street, Piccadilly Circus, the Tate Britain, the Tate Modern, Kensington Palace...I could go on and on, but instead I'll just share it with you while we're doing it.

Luckily Alain has his ever-present guidebook, and we've been looking at what we want to see for the last couple of weeks.

Planning a trip with him is fun - much different than my old habits of just going and exploring whatever happened to catch my eyes...
